ABOUT ME

Montessa Lee is a National Board Certified Teacher, Mentor Teacher, and advocate for lung cancer awareness. Montessa obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from East Carolina University and a Master of Science in Special Education from Johns Hopkins University. She found her passion and purpose in educating students with exceptional needs, eventually specializing in working with students diagnosed with autism.

After being diagnosed with small cell lung cancer in 2006, Montessa began to chronicle her experiences, believing her experience would be a healing testimony for some beyond herself. Through her journey, her memoir He Whispered Life was birthed.

He Whispered Life unfolds the riveting life journey of Montessa Lee and her battle to survive and overcome the disparaging diagnosis of lung cancer. This book beautifully captures Montessa's story of hope and transformation through her deep faith in God. It also provides an insightful look into the unique world that cancer patients and caretakers grapple with and draws attention to the need to reexamine cancer funding. This book will provide inspiration for anyone facing challenges in their life.

Through her journey with lung cancer, Montessa has found that funding for research in lung cancer is inadequate given that lung cancer is the leading cancer killer. Since her diagnosis, she has pursued efforts to focus on lung cancer awareness and research including serving as a consumer reviewer for the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program, serving as a Patient Representative for the FDA, and obtaining a proclamation declaring November 2010 as Lung Cancer Awareness Month for the state of Maryland.

Montessa Lee has a desire to spread her testimony and bring others hope. She currently resides in Hyattsville, Maryland with her dog Surrender. She is an active member in her church serving in the Cancer Support Ministry. Montessa enjoys reading, traveling and spending time with family.
